Annotated Bibliography

"About OCD." 2006 Obsessive Compulsive Foundation. 03 Mar. 2006 http://www.ocfoundation.org/

This website focuses on the Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It tells us what OCD really is, the differences between obsessions and compulsions, and how it may begin. It is a basic, but great website to really know the "gists" of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. They also have external links that contain information on OCD treatments, OCD in different age groups, other OCD article, and how to find the correct OCD therapist for you. They answer many commonly asked questions about OCD. The audience that they are trying to reach would be just about anybody who really just want to know the general concept of OCD or someone that is dealing with the disorder.

This source is credible because it is a ".org" webpage. This helps me with me research paper because it states that OCD is curable a curable disease. It needs time and patients but it is curable in many cases. It will also help in terms of finding other articles that I should use if needed. I think this is a good source because it is informative. It gives you the general concept of OCD. It is organized, simple, and easy to access and move within the website.

Long, Rob. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders. Great Britain: David Fulton Publishers, 2005

In this book, Long states that there are essentially four elements that are key to identifying whether or not someone is suffering from the disease. These aspects are then rated and the results are used to help asses the disorder. It will show how extreme OCD is present within the patient.

This book will help with my final paper because it will help me create an introduction. It will allow me to introduce the basic symptoms of OCD and determine how extreme or mild your case may be. This source is bad just because of its generalization, but will work in my research paper. It will work because I will introduce the terms of OCD and define what it is. I will then use Long's four elements in identifying whether or not you do have the disorder and seek treatments.

MTV's True Life: I Have OCD. (Media Source) http://www.mtv.com/

This is a documentary following three people who are suffering from OCD. We follow them into their everyday lives, watching what obstacles they go through each and everyday. This documentary shows in depth how extreme some cases may be and how some are trying to overcome the disorder. It shows types of treatments that are taken and we are able to see the results. For one, she triumphs and is finally able to put her disorder away for good.

This source will definitely be my primary source. This will help me with my research paper because it supports my thesis. It shows that through one patient, OCD can be cured. My main focus of the video will be of Morgan. She is the pateint that is able to overcome the disorder and not let the disorder overcome her. She essentially is "cured." Through treatments that deal with her emotions and mother passing, she is able to end her obsessiviness and compulsivness. This is a great source for my final paper. It is very interesting and straight forward. For any one who has no idea of what the disorder is, they will be left with a pretty goood chunk of knowledge of the disorder. This source is credible because it is a documentary. It is real, actual, hard evidence that OCD may be cured.

Hollander, Eric. Summers, Marc. Everything in Its Place: My Trials and Triumphs with Obsessive-Complusive Disorder. New York: Penguin Putnam Inc. 1999, 2000

This book is the journey of host, Marc Summers, overcoming his OCD disorder. It is his biography. He talks about his personal incidents he had to deal with. How he had booked a flight for later on in the week thinking that the plane would soon crash, literally crash, or a car ride to the studio may have only taken ten minutes but had to take two hours due to his rituals, or Marc trying to find ways to talk to his driver just so he does not break into one of his rituals like looking at his watch several times in a row for several mintues. This book tells the obstacles of Marc and how he survived them.

This is a credible source because it is real. It is a biography of Marc Summers who endured OCD and came out on top; he helped write his own book. I am able to use this evidence for support on my final paper. This will be one of the cases I will use to support that OCD can be cured. Though there are many options of different treatments, you have to be able to find the correct one that will fit you.
